my mac os x stuck on the started page

i have a mac os x desktop and this morning i was on youtube and i exit out and loged out of my computer and it was on sleep mode and when i went on it and it just got stuck on the gray page with the apple and spinner... :'( What can i do? Whats wrong with it? Please help!!!
